چکیده

Mixed-effect models are widely used for the analysis of correlated data such as longitudinal data and repeated measures. In this article, we study an approach to the nonparametric estimation of mixed-effect models. We consider models with parametric random effects and flexible fixed effects, and employ the penalized least squares method to estimate the models. The issue to be addressed is the selection of smoothing parameters through the generalized cross-validation method, which is shown to yield optimal smoothing for both real and latent random effects. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the empirical performance of generalized cross-validation in the context. Real data examples are presented to demonstrate the applications of the methodology. AMS 2000 subject classifications. Primary 62G08; secondary 62G05, 62G20, 62H12, 41A15.

A MODIFICATION ON RIDGE ESTIMATION FOR FUZZY NONPARAMETRIC REGRESSION

This paper deals with ridge estimation of fuzzy nonparametric regression models using triangular fuzzy numbers. This estimation method is obtained by implementing ridge regression learning algorithm in the La- grangian dual space. The distance measure for fuzzy numbers that suggested by Diamond is used and the local linear smoothing technique with the cross- validation procedure for selecting t...

SUGI 28: Smoothing with SAS(r) PROC MIXED

Mixed models are an extension of regression models that allows for incorporation of random effects. The application of mixed-effects models to practical data analysis has greatly expanded with consequent development of theory and computer software. It also turns out that mixed models are closely related to smoothing. Nonparametric regression models, especially the general smoothing spline model...

Bayesian Analysis for Penalized Spline Regression Using WinBUGS

Penalized splines can be viewed as BLUPs in a mixed model framework, which allows the use of mixed model software for smoothing. Thus, software originally developed for Bayesian analysis of mixed models can be used for penalized spline regression. Bayesian inference for nonparametric models enjoys the flexibility of nonparametric models and the exact inference provided by the Bayesian inferenti...

Hypothesis testing in semiparametric additive mixed models.

We consider testing whether the nonparametric function in a semiparametric additive mixed model is a simple fixed degree polynomial, for example, a simple linear function. This test provides a goodness-of-fit test for checking parametric models against nonparametric models. It is based on the mixed-model representation of the smoothing spline estimator of the nonparametric function and the vari...

Bayesian inference in semiparametric mixed models for longitudinal data.

We consider Bayesian inference in semiparametric mixed models (SPMMs) for longitudinal data. SPMMs are a class of models that use a nonparametric function to model a time effect, a parametric function to model other covariate effects, and parametric or nonparametric random effects to account for the within-subject correlation. We model the nonparametric function using a Bayesian formulation of ...
